Dolphin Tour

Bottlenose dolphins live in the ocean all around Myrtle Beach and in our surrounding inlets.  It’s not unusual to see them frolicking about – especially if the waters are calm.  Bottlenose dolphins live in small pods of up to 12 members; they are very social animals. When you’re out in a boat, please be careful not to come too close to them with your engine.   Recently, reports of dolphins trapped in fishing nets or being injured by boat motors have increased.  Ecotourism encourages travelers to be responsible and respectful of animals in their natural environment.

The best way to see and interact with dolphins is to take a guided boat tour with a experienced captain and crew.  The tours focus on watching dolphins in their natural environment and educating people about these fascinating creatures.  Intentionally swimming with wild dolphins is illegal in South Carolina and in most other coastal states. That type of interaction is not beneficial for the dolphins. Besides, they’re much faster than a human… you just couldn’t keep up!  Even by boating with the dolphins, we are creating an interaction between the dolphin and ourselves that otherwise would not exist. This level of interaction with wild dolphins is acceptable and is an educational experience for travelers.  Learning increases respect for dolphins and their environment.
